North East Florida

Northeast Florida, which traces it roots back to 1513, is a region of fascinating juxtaposition of old, new, and somewhere in between. The First Coast of Florida, as the area is now known, extends along the Atlantic Seaboard from the Georgia border, its main destinations being Jacksonville, Florida’s largest metropolis and port city; Amelia Island with its Victorian-era town of Fernandina Beach and St. Augustine, a city that remains the USA’s oldest continuously inhabited European settlement.

Featured Locations: Amelia Island, St. Augustine.

Amelia Island, with its spectacular coastline and pristine beaches, is a 13 mile long barrier island just north of Jacksonville, near the Georgia border, is one of America's few remaining unspoiled island paradises. Rich in history with a distinctly Southern flavour more like the Carolinas. Fernandina Beach, the only town, exudes charm and is lined with restaurants, galleries and specialty shops. Activities include bird watching, cycling, fishing, golf, swimming, sailing, canoeing and kayaking.

St. Augustine, founded in 1565 and renowned for its rich history, contains a remarkable collection of historical buildings, some dating as far back as the 1500’s. With picturesque streets and stone buildings, museums, 17th century fort, horse-drawn carriages, the oldest house, 18th century Spanish quarter, it seems more like a charming European village than a modern American city. It is an exceptional town with miles of palm-lined beaches, excellent restaurants, nightlife and tons of shopping.
