1. 18% of Americans Have Seen What They Believe To Be a Ghost

According to a survey conducted in 2009 by the Pew Research Center, one out of every five adults in the United States say that they have "seen or been in the presence of" what they believed to be a ghost.

2. 29% of Americans Have Been In Touch With The Dead

The same Pew Research Center survey quoted above also notes that 29% of adult Americans have had experiences in which they felt in touch with a friend or loved one who had passed away.

3. 68% of Paranormal Romance Book Covers Feature a Shirtless Man

A book cover designer who runs the site S.F Designs conducted a survey on paranormal romance books and determined that 68% of them feature a shirtless man on the cover. Makes sense seeing as how women are probably more likely to read romance books than men. But, that doesn't explain number 4...

4. 34% of Paranormal Romance Book Covers Feature a Bear

The same S.F. Designs survey above also found that out of all of the possible animals to be featured on the covers of Paranormal Romance Books, bears are by far the most popular. Birds, Gorillas, and panthers came in at a three-way tie for last place.

5. 54% of Americans Believe in Aliens

A market-research company called YouGov posted the results of a survey conducted in 2015 which indicated that 54% of Americans believe that there is intelligent life on other planets.

7. 1,200 Operational Haunted Houses Exist in America

If you're looking for a haunted house (the fun kind, not the real kind) come Halloween, there are currently over 1,200 that are operational in the United States according to a site called American Haunts.

8. 71.96 is the "Haunted Index" for Alexandria, Louisiana as of 2015

A study conducted by a real estate site called Find the Home last year found that although many would assume New Orleans to be the most haunted city in America, it actually lost 1st place to neighboring Alexandria, which is said to have a haunted index of 71.96.

9. 3,313 Bigfoot Sightings Were Reported Between 1921-2013

Joshua Stevens, a Ph.D. candidate who specializes in big data, compiled data from the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization and found that between the years 1921 and 2013 there were at least 3,313 Bigfoot sightings made in the United States and Canada.
