The exterior of the Hinsdale House.

Ed and Lorraine Warren gained fame thanks to Amityville and The Conjuring movies, but their work started long before (and lasted long after) those films. One of their most compelling cases was the haunting of the Hinsdale House in Western New York that eventually led to a house exorcism in the mid 1970's.

Hinsdale House is, like many scary movies, built on ancient Indian burial grounds. As legend has it, it was also the site of many crimes. A man murdered his own brother, a young boy was killed in a buzz saw accident, and a young woman was hung from a tree in the woods nearby. Whether these stories are true or not is unclear (especially the last one), but it certainly holds mystique enough to attract ghost hunters and paranormal investigators from around the country.
