On April 25, a horrific tragedy took the lives of Hannah Simmons, 23, her daughter, A'lannah, nine months, and her friend Lauren Buteau, 28 in a horrific car crash in Georgia. A few days later, their horror story had a twist: A woman in a car soon after the accident snapped a photo that seems to show the three ascending into heaven.

The photo seems to show three little lights going up a path of light into the sky. There is no doubt that it looks like the gates of heaven opening up to three new souls. And for the families of the deceased, it provides some comfort.

"I just needed something to show me that they were in Heaven and that they were OK," Judy Simmons, Hannah's mom, tells PEOPLE. "And that was my confirmation."

Judy keeps a printout of the photo on her TV now.

Sometimes ghost stories are scary. Sometimes they are tragic. But regardless of what you believe, this photo seems to show something that should give us all a measure of comfort. Perhaps our souls do go on. Maybe there is a better place. May it be so.
