Mysterious Lights in the Sky Confused Many in Las Vegas

A series of mysterious lights that lit up the sky over Nevada and Northern California had many out with their cameras, convinced that they'd seen a UFO. Or 10. But had they?

The series of videos uploaded to Twitter in late July show what appear to be two large scale fireballs headed directly toward Earth. Who wouldn't be scared? .

Though it's hard to see anything in the sky when you are standing on the Las Vegas strip, if you get outside the city, the sky seems infinite. And most of the reports centered in and around the Las Vegas area. But others in Reno, Nevada, and Northern California saw the lights, too, according to Fox5 Las Vegas.

As it turns out, the amazing display that seemed otherworldly wasn't. At least not exactly.

According to a spokeswoman for the US Strategic Command, the lights were the remains of the Chinese rocket, Chang Zheng-7, that was re-entering the atmosphere around 9:45 p.m. Pacific time. This is not the UFO we were hoping for.

Aliens or not, the display is something to see.
